Safety Check Timer

The Safety Check Timer in the Famalth One App helps ensure your safety during uncertain or risky situations. When activated, it starts a countdown timer. If you don’t cancel it before the time expires, the app will automatically send an SOS alert to your emergency contacts - even if your phone is locked or the app is closed.

Overview​

With the Safety Check Timer, you can:

  • Set a timer before going for a walk, travel, or solo activity.
  • Get notified before time runs out.
  • Cancel the timer if safe or let the app auto-trigger SOS if unresponsive.
  • Work fully in the background (no need to keep app open).
  • See a live countdown notification with a cancel option.

How to Start a Safety Check​

  1. Open the Famalth One App.
  2. On the Dashboard (Home screen), tap Safety Check.
  3. Tap Start Safety Timer.
  4. Choose a duration, for example:
    • 1 Minute
    • 5 Minutes
    • 10 Minutes
    • 15 Minutes
    • 30 Minutes
    • 1 Hour
  5. The timer will start immediately and run in the background.

During the Countdown​

Once started:

  • A notification appears on your phone showing:

    “Famalth Safety Timer Active - Auto SOS in 04:59”

  • The notification includes a Cancel button to stop the timer if you’re safe.
  • You can continue using your phone normally or even lock the screen - the timer keeps running in the background.

If you don’t cancel before the timer ends:

  • The Famalth One App automatically sends an SOS alert to your emergency contacts.
  • The alert includes your current live location and preset message.

Example Use Cases​

Notification Behavior​

  • The live countdown is always visible in your notification tray.
  • It shows remaining time (e.g., “Auto SOS in 04:58”).
  • Tap Cancel Safety Check directly from the notification to stop it.
  • If time runs out, SOS is sent automatically - even if the app is closed or screen is locked.

The app uses a background service to ensure the SOS alert triggers reliably, even if the device enters sleep mode or loses internet temporarily.

Example Workflow​

  1. You tap Safety Check from the dashboard.
  2. Select 10 minutes duration.
  3. You receive a live notification:

    “Auto SOS in 09:59 • Tap Cancel if safe.”

  4. If you’re safe, tap Cancel Safety Check anytime.
  5. If you forget or can’t respond, the app automatically:
    • Sends SOS alert to your contacts.
    • Shares live location.
    • Displays confirmation once sent.

Safety and Privacy Notes​

  • Safety Timer continues to function even if the app is minimized or phone is locked.
  • No continuous location tracking occurs until the SOS is triggered.
  • Your data remains encrypted and visible only to your trusted emergency contacts.

Troubleshooting​

Best Practices​

  • Always use Safety Check when travelling alone or in unknown places.
  • Choose a timer slightly longer than expected duration.
  • Test the feature once to get familiar with its notification and alert flow.
  • Keep emergency contacts updated in Manage Contacts settings.

Example Scenario​

You’re taking a 15-minute evening walk.
You set the Safety Timer for 15 minutes and start walking.

  • After 14 minutes, you see “Auto SOS in 01:00” in your notification.
  • You tap Cancel Safety Check once you reach home safely.

If you hadn’t canceled, Famalth would automatically send an SOS alert to your saved contacts with your live GPS location.
